HOW STANDING SEAM WORKS
Each panel runs from eave to ridge with a raised leg on each side. Neighboring panels lock together at those legs, either snapping together or being mechanically seamed, and the panels attach to the deck with clips hidden under the seam. Nothing punctures the face of the roof, so there are no exposed screws to dry out, back out or leak.
WHY CHOOSE STANDING SEAM
- No exposed fasteners to maintain
- Panels move freely through daily heat cycles
- Long service life with a quality finish
- Clean, modern lines on contemporary, farmhouse and Hill Country homes
- Works well under solar mounts that clamp to the seams
PANELS AND FINISHES
SNAP-LOCK
Panels snap together at the seam. Fast to install and common on residential roofs.
MECHANICALLY SEAMED
Seams folded with a seaming tool for higher wind and water resistance, used on low slopes and commercial roofs.
PVDF FINISHES
Long-lasting painted finishes (often sold as Kynar 500) that hold color under Texas sun.
GALVALUME
Unpainted aluminum-zinc coated steel. See Galvalume metal roofing.
STANDING SEAM QUESTIONS
IS STANDING SEAM WORTH THE EXTRA COST?
For a home you plan to keep, usually yes: less maintenance than exposed fastener and a longer service life than shingles. See residential metal roofing in Austin, and our metal roof cost guide compares the tiers.
CAN SOLAR GO ON A STANDING SEAM ROOF?
Yes. Solar racking can clamp to the seams without drilling through the panels.
WHAT GAUGE SHOULD I CHOOSE?
24 and 26 gauge are the most common for homes; 24 is thicker. Your estimate lists the gauge so bids compare fairly.
